Do I know someone (“the app,” “we”) helps you find people to trust — for a service, skill, or introduction — among people you already know and people they know. This page explains what information we collect and how we use it.
Who we are
Do I know someone? is run by Lee Ju An, sole trader (egyéni vállalkozó).
- Registered address: 1147 Budapest, Ilosvai Selymes utca 110.
- Sole trader registration number: 53314802 (register kept by NAV)
- Tax number: 69528695-2-42
- Email: support@doiknowsomeone.com
- Phone: +36 20 269 5623
- Hosting provider: Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Avenue #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA
Information we collect
- Account information: your name and email address, provided when you register or sign in.
- Profile information: anything you choose to add to your profile — profile photo, position, company, city, an “about” text, a website link, education, skills, languages, and certifications. Your photo is stored with our hosting provider, Supabase, and deleted when you change it, remove it, or delete your account.
- Connections and messages: the connection requests you send or receive, and the content of messages you exchange with people you're connected to.
- Your invite link: if you share it, anyone who opens it sees your name and profile photo on our sign-up page, so they know who invited them. A personal invitation link is made for one friend: we keep who made it and who opened it, so that the two of you can be connected.
- Recommendations: if you write a recommendation for a connection, its text and your name are visible to anyone who can see that person's profile. The person you recommend can leave it off their profile, but only you can edit or delete it.
- Feed posts and comments: the text, place and skills of what you post, who may see it, and when; the comments you write; and the “I can help” offers you make. Your friends see your name and photo with a post. Friends of friends see the post and which friend you have in common, but not your name or photo until they comment, offer help or write to you. A comment is visible to everyone who can see that post, with your name, photo and job. Private messages about a post stay between you and the person you write to. If you share an ask outside the site, its public page shows your name and the ask to anyone who has the link. What people send there (the name and contact details they type for the person they recommend, their own name and, if they choose, their own contact details) is visible only to you. It is deleted when you delete it, with the ask or your account, and in any case after 90 days. If someone recommended you and you want your details removed, write to support@doiknowsomeone.com. Posts, comments and offers are deleted when you delete your account.
- Payments: if you buy credits or the monthly plan, we store what you bought and when. For the monthly plan we also store a reference to the card you saved with Barion and your renewal date. You enter your card details on Barion's payment page and they never reach us; Barion keeps the saved card so that we can charge your monthly renewal. You can switch renewal off any time on the plan page, and it stops when you delete your account.
- Reports and blocks: if you report or block another user, we keep a record of that action to keep the app safe.
- Notifications: if you turn on notifications, we store a technical address for that browser or phone (issued by its push service, such as Google's or Apple's) and the keys needed to encrypt what we send to it. We use it only to send you the notifications you asked for. You can turn them off under My account at any time, and they are deleted when you delete your account.
- Usage and errors: if you allow analytics, we use PostHog to see which pages are visited and what is clicked. To catch errors we use Sentry. What is stored in your browser is described under “Cookies and similar storage” below.
- Payment fraud prevention: on our home page, the legal pages and the page where you pay, Barion's fraud-prevention tracker (the Barion Pixel) runs. It sets two cookies: ba_vid, which lasts up to 1.5 years from its last refresh, and ba_sid, which lasts 30 minutes. They help Barion tell a genuine card payment from a fraudulent one. Barion is the controller of this data and relies on its legitimate interest in preventing fraud; see Barion's privacy notice and cookie notice.
Google Contacts (optional)
If you choose to use “Import Google contacts,” we ask Google for read-only access to your contacts' email addresses, for the sole purpose of checking which of your contacts already have an account. We then send a connection request, on your behalf, to each of them.
We do not store your Google contacts. The email addresses are checked against our existing users in memory during that one request and then discarded — nothing about your contacts who don't use the app is saved, shared, sold, or used for advertising. You can revoke this access at any time from your Google Account permissions page.
Do I know someone?’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How we use this information
We use your information to run the app: to show your profile to your connections, to rank search results by how closely you're connected to someone, to deliver messages and notifications, and to manage your payments and plan. Friends of friends who find you in a search see your whole profile and can write to you. Other members can find you by searching your name; before you connect, they see only your name, job title, company, profile photo, city, country and how many friends you have in common. We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the app: Supabase (account login and database hosting), Barion (payments), Vercel (website hosting), Resend (sending notification emails), PostHog (usage statistics, only if you allow analytics), Sentry (error monitoring) and, only if you use that feature, Google (contacts import). We share with them only what's needed for them to provide their service, and we don't allow them to use your data for their own purposes.
Your choices
You can edit or remove most of your profile information at any time from your Profile page. You can delete your account and all associated data yourself under My account. For any question about your data, contact us at support@doiknowsomeone.com.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
